Hideo Kojima's entrance to the Singapore leg of the Death Stranding world tour felt carefully calibrated for impact. After a few moments in a pitch black hall, a palpable sense of anticipation pulsing through the crowd, the famed video game designer made a sudden appearance centre stage. Illuminated by the spotlight, his figure cast a faint silhouette on the wall, with only his face visible through a cutout in an opaque screen. Then the audience roared their approval as the screen gradually rose, unveiling more of the man himself and the rest of the stage. It was an electrifying moment, but it also encapsulates the spirit of the Death Stranding tour: a celebration of Kojima's unorthodox achievements. This may sound like sheer bombast, but there probably isn't another figure quite like Kojima in gaming today. To his fans, his work on Metal Gear Solid cemented his title as one of the industry's few gaming auteurs, while the series' popularity - and his constant shoulder-rubbing with … [Read more...] about The cult of Hideo Kojima

The Witcher Netflix series showrunner has revealed her original pitch for the upcoming season. In what would have been a dramatic retooling of the source material, Lauren S. Hissrich planned to have Ciri, not Geralt, as the main “focal” character, with the character also acting as narrator.“When I was first pitching to Netflix, I pitched them a completely different version of the story which I’ve actually never talked about before,” Hissrich reveals in a recent Netflix featurette on The Witcher.“I pitched them a version of the story which actually started with the second-to-last book [in writer Andrzej Sapkowski’s series], which is Lady of the Lake. Ciri ends up sitting by a lake, meeting with a man, and sort of telling her story.” She added: “I started with that narrative structure, which is to have Ciri be our focal character and be kind of our narrator.”But Hissrich soon found an issue with that style of setup: not enough … [Read more...] about The first pitch for The Witcher Netflix series involved Ciri as the main “focal” character
1. Destiny 2 Season of Dawn brings back a fan-favorite Guardian The Season of Dawn is the next chapter in Destiny 2 Year 3, and while it's led by Osiris the Warlock, all eyes are on Saint-14 the Titan. Thanks to the latest timeline McGuffin, that's about to change. And not only are we going to save Saint-14, we're going to fight alongside him in a new activity called the Sundial, all while earning some of the coolest-looking mods and armor in Destiny history. It remains to be seen how well the season performs without a new expansion to prop it up, but there's no denying that the Season of Dawn is freaking awesome on paper. Home • GTFO • Do panic Matt Cox Staff Writer 9th December 2019 / 11:00AM I’m surrounded by three people, each trapped in a vertical cot. We’re staring at each other from respective cages as we plunge into the depths of our prison, having been pressganged into resolving the warden’s monster problem. It won’t be long until we’re at each others’ side, tiptoing past sleeping abominations. It won’t be much longer until we’re screaming and scurrying away, after one of us wakes them up. I’m playing co-operative survival horror game GTFO at a preview event in Copenhagen. The wholesome lights of the Christmas market I just walked through outside contrast with the virtual gloom and steel that now surrounds us, as well as the assault rifle I’ve chosen to deal with its denizens. Bullets are scarce, and supposed to be something of a last resort. We burn through a lot of ammo in the first room. We start next to at … [Read more...] about Hands on with GTFO, the best way to panic as a group since Killing Floor
