(@Jeopardy) November 22, 2019 Fans just can’t stop lamenting the loss of Iron Man after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Now, even Jeopardy! is getting in on the act with today’s episode. The popular program decided to dedicate an entire category to the quips that came to delight fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A category called “Nicknames From Tony Stark” was knocked down in short order after it was unveiled earlier this evening. It was quite surreal to hear Alex Trebek say things like “Tony’s name for this Web-Slinging hero is Underoos” or “Hawkeye gets this moniker of a Lord of the Rings archer.” The results are nothing less than comical, but give these contestants credit for knocking down each … [Read more...] about Jeopardy! The Double-A Team is a newish feature series honouring the unpretentious, mid-budget, gimmicky commercial action games that no-one seems to make any more. Check out our archive of Double-A pieces here! What does Quentin Tarantino truly love? Bare feet, sure, but let's not get into that. His other big obsession is 1970s grindhouse cinema, that vast reservoir of zero-budget C-movies that all seem to promise violence, gore or some sort of corrupting wickedness. The best of these slapdash quickies thrum with a disreputable energy. Most are charmless and unwatchable. The trailers - lurid, voiceover-heavy and mercifully short - are usually the best part. In 2007, Tarantino and his buddy Robert Rodriguez channelled the ghost of drive-ins past for Grindhouse, an uncouth double-bill of throwback movies. This was a lovingly-crafted three-hour exultation of trash that somehow cost $70million to make. It absolutely belly-flopped at the US box office. Perhaps it was all just too much for the … [Read more...] about The Double-A Team: In bullet ballet Wet, grindhouse got a glow up
Mortal Kombat 11 gets Sindel on Tuesday, 26th November as a DLC character, and developer NetherRealm has shown off her hair-raising new moves. In the video below, NetherRealm's Tyler Lansdown and Stephanie Brownback run through the Queen of Edenia's new moveset. In Mortal Kombat 11, Sindel is a mix-up character, whereas in Mortal Kombat 9 she was very much a zoning character. She incorporates her deadly hair into many of her moves, such as her throws, and her scream is back in various forms. Of note, her bladed staff from 2004's Mortal Kombat Deception is back (you can see it on her hip). This was last seen in 2006's Mortal Kombat Armageddon, and is used in Mortal Kombat 11 in a number of moves. Anyway, onto the good stuff. Sindel's fatalities lean heavily on her scream and hair. Here's fatality number one:That's a bit by the numbers for me. Things get really juicy with Sindel's fatality number two. Here, Sindel shoves her hair down her opponent's throat (ugg!), out of their body in … [Read more...] about In Mortal Kombat 11, Sindel’s new fatality will make you scream

"You are a huge-ass motherfucker killing demons in Hell," reads the matter-of-fact Steam page for Hellbound, a new shooter inspired by the likes of Doom, Blood, and Quake. It's clear Argentinian developer Saibot has a firm tone in mind for the game, which is impossibly fast, unashamedly action-focused, and splattered with gore.I ask Tobias Rusjan, director, game designer, and programmer, what he thinks makes a great first-person shooter. "Solid gameplay, tight controls, and interesting level design," he says. "Of course, this needs to be combined with good graphics and sound, not only in terms of quality, but also in terms of holistic coherence in general."Hellbound joins Dusk, Ion Maiden, and Devil Daggers in revering the hellish shooters of the 1990s. But why is there such powerful nostalgia for this particular brand of FPS? I ask Rusjan."In our opinion, people are nostalgic about '90s shooters because they miss the focus on gameplay instead of narrative," he says. "In those days … [Read more...] about Hellbound is a hardcore ’90s-inspired shooter for “true warriors”
