Autumn is here, and along with it comes plenty of games to play while snug on your sofa. October brings with it a bucket of bullets, spooky slime, and a monster hunter on the move. Truly, something for everyone.
Check out the ten biggest new releases in October alongside pre-order information and the best deals.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint…
Halloween is a time for ghosts, but early October brings a different kind of vengeful spirit. Ghost Recon: Breakpoint offers tactical combat on a huge island rammed with drones to avoid, enemies to stealthily eliminate, and for the first time in the franchise’s history, loot to collect.
Ghostbusters: The Videogame…
From ghosts to ghostbusting, October 4 also sees the launch of Ghostbusters: The Videogame on PS4, Xbox One and Switch. Written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, and featuring their voices alongside Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray, this is the closest we’ll ever get to concluding the original Ghostbusters movie saga. It’s a remaster of the PS3 and Xbox 360 title which was well-received by critics.
Sega Mega Drive Mini…
Also on the same date, you can travel back in time with the Sega Mega Drive Mini. The latest mini-console comes with two controllers and 40 classic games – including Sonic, Castlevania, and Golden Axe among others. Also, it’s very cute.
Overwatch Nintendo Switch…
In case you hadn’t heard, Overwatch is a rather good game. The huge roster of characters all have their own abilities and skills, and it’s up to players to work together in teams to compete in online multiplayer. Launching on October 15 for Nintendo Switch, this version includes all the DLC added since the 2016 launch, as well as new control options.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt…
Sticking with more incredible games coming to the Nintendo Switch, also on October 15, the console is getting arguably its most ambitious port yet with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition. Widely regarded as one of the best games ever made, The Witcher 3 tells the story of Geralt of Rivia – a gruff monster hunter searching for his loved ones. Each of the expansions is bigger than most games, too, so you’ll be glued to your Switch for months.
From slaying monsters to monstrous athleticism, October 22 sees the launch of WWE 2K20. A series that likely needs no introduction, this is the first iteration developed without longtime custodians Yuke’s. There’s a new set of controls, the story of the Four Horsewomen, and more steel chairs than you can raise the People’s eyebrow at.
The Outer Worlds…
The Outer Worlds is perfect for Fallout fans that were left a bit cold by last year’s Fallout 76. It’s a single-player action RPG from the developers of New Vegas, so expect lots of big choices with even bigger consequences. Set on a planet colonised by huge corporations, it’ll crash land on PC, Xbox and PS4 on October 25. A Switch port is also in development.
Also landing on October 25 is the second coming of a blockbuster franchise. That’s right, MediEvil is back from the dead. The cult-classic PSOne title is getting a fresh coat of paint on PlayStation 4, and looks to be a faithful re-imagining of Sir Daniel Fortesque’s first adventure. We can’t wait to see how it compares to the recent remasters of Crash and Spyro.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare…
Of course, this month’s biggest release is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which reboots the series (kind of) on October 25. Expect killstreaks, explosions, and a surprisingly tense and mature campaign which takes a look at the horrors of war. We can even save you some money on it.
Luigi’s Mansion 3…
Closing out October with Halloween, we have Luigi’s Mansion 3. The oft-forgotten green-clad plumber is locked in a haunted hotel and has to battle his way out with his trusty Poltergust. Expect plenty of puzzles and chaos, as well as a suite of online multiplayer modes.
