Cuphead was one of the big hits last year. The game was a 2D bullet hell that incorporated the classic, morbid cartoon style of the 40s and 50s. Because of this, the game took a lot of time to make and a lot of sacrifices from Studio MDHR. What are the chances for a sequel in the form of Cuphead 2?
Well, a snippet from the Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast may have dropped a hint. One of the brothers exclaimed that he was given an offer to work on a project. The project was reportedly a sequel to “one of the best games last year” as well as being “easy to guess”.
Knowing how often the brothers dabble in Indie games hints that this could be the highly expected Cuphead 2. We could all go for a sequel right? The bosses and run’n’gun levels weren’t enough!
This might also be a verbal mistake, however. The brother might have been referring to working on the delicious last course DLC that Studio MDHR had confirmed.
Considering the amount of time Cuphead has been in development with earlier builds showcased over 5 years ago, I wouldn’t be surprised if Cuphead 2 release date is still far away.
Hand drawn animation in a video game also takes a lot of time. This is excluding the time it took to come up with the concepts and then playtest the game.
As a fan, I would love to see Cuphead 2 as soon as possible. There’s always a chance that Studio MDHR may have made a bit more than what was shown in Cuphead, saving the rest for a sequel.
If you haven’t already played Cuphead on the PC or Xbox One, a Nintendo Switch version is now available thanks to Microsoft. That means you can now play the game on the go and rage wherever you want!
