SONY has sneakily upgraded the PS4 Pro without officially telling anyone. A new version of the firm’s most powerful console has been slipped out, initially in the Red Dead Redemption Bundle. The new console is just as fast as the previous iterations, but is significantly quieter. Sony has improved on the changes showcased in the 500 million Special Edition for the new standard model that no longer sounds like it’s about to take off when required to do any heavy lifting. Officially dubbed the CUH-7200, the only notable difference on the outside is the power lead — it has dumped the three-pronged kettle lead to revert to the two-pronged figure-of-eight cable used for other recent PlayStation models. Described as “the best version of the PlayStation 4 Pro hardware on the market” by the experts at Digital Foundry, writing for Eurogamer, the new model is likely to be widely available in the run-up to Christmas — expect them to hit shops once they’ve cleared their old stock with Black Friday deals. If you want to check to see if you’re getting one, look at the front of the box, and specifically at the model number above the colour listing. The Red Dead Redemption bundle is marked as being model CUH-7216B (as highlighted above) — any model number starting CUH-72 will be the newer version.
