TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis will be Florida’s next governor after voters decided Tuesday to keep Florida under Republican control. The news was first announced when his opponent, Democratic Mayor Andrew Gillum of Tallahassee, conceded. DeSantis built his name recognition with more than 100 appearances on Fox News, then won the primary over Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam by 20 points based mostly on President Donald Trump’s endorsement. Trump visited Florida twice in the final six days of the election to help build turnout for DeSantis.
