Dragon Ball Super: Broly is coming to theaters this December in Japan, with the English dub showing up in the United States in January 2019. At San Diego Comic Con, Funimation revealed the very first trailer for the new film, which officially makes fan-favorite character Broly a canonical character. In the English dub trailer above, Broly can be seeing beating the life out of Goku, Vegeta, and even Frieza — a matchup that many fans never expected to see. The panel also stated that series creator Akira Toriyama had more of a hand in making Broly than any other Dragon Ball Super film before. For those worried that Toriyama’s rework of Broly would take away from his original identity, the poster and trailer still show off his unique, green Super Saiyan look. He’s also still comically large, and makes the the other Saiyans look tiny in comparison — even in their Super Saiyan Blue forms. Whether Broly ends this movie as friend or foe is yet to be determined, and fans will have to wait until later this year to find out for sure.
