If you’ve been advertising on Google and other search engines you’ve probably realized that getting a high quality score is essential to your success as a PPC marketer. So the question remains: How do I get a high quality score?
In this article I’m going to break it down for you step by step and I guarantee if you follow the steps you’ll see your quality scores boosting up to 9 out of 10!
Before we dive in to my secrets, I want you to understand the concept behind quality score. If you owned Google, what would be your number 1 goal?
To keep people coming to your search engine right? Now if everyone that searches in your engine in bombarded with irrelevant ads all the time are they going to keep coming back? probably not. I’ll give you an example: I remember a while ago I searched for TV accessories and I saw 3 ads all about ring tones.
Bottom line: If I cant find what I’m looking for because I keep getting bombarded with irrelevant content then I’m not searching on that engine again. So think about that next time you get the idea that Google hates you. 🙂
Ok, let get to the content: How to get a high quality score:
Step 1: Make sure every single keyword in your ad group is relevant to your ad! Here’s what I usually do: I put the keyword in the headline and if I can I’ll put it in the ad description as well. This will increase your CTR too which means lower priced clicks.
Step 2: Write compelling, relevant, curiosity grabbing ads! By writing ads that get clicked on a lot (high Click Through Rate) Google will automatically award you with a massive quality score. As I said above you’ll also be paying way less per click.
Step 3: Ok, so our keywords are relevant to our ads, and we’re getting a high CTR now because of it. Now we want to make sure the website we are sending people to is relevant to both the keyword and the ad. By this, the same keywords that you are bidding on must be in your ad and throughout your landing page.
Are you starting to see how it all fits together: KEYWORDS — ADS — LANDING PAGES must all be relevant.
Step 5: This is more of a long term thing but you need to make sure your site is quite ‘thick’. In order to achieve high quality scores you need to make sure your site is quality. What I do is write 5-10 articles which are filled with relevant keywords and have a link to the articles on my landing page.
Step 5 cont. If you don’t want to write get them written for you on elance.com or something for a few bucks each. Also you want to link out to ‘important websites’. What I do is put a link on my landing page called: Resources and I will link to sites like Wikipedia.com and other .gov and .edu sites.
Ideally, in order to the above steps RIGHT you will want to have only one keyword per ad group. I know this is a lot of work but you’ll get rewarded big time. You can also use software where you can create thousands of AdGroups and Ads in a few clicks. However this is for serious PPC marketers only. (resource section).
